uane Funderburk
began his musical studies in the Pacific Northwest, attending Seattle Pacific
University and the University of Washington, studying with Marcile Mack and
Randolph Hokanson. While at Boston University, he studied with Hungarian
pianist Bela Nagy and won the Aaron Richmond Piano Competition, which led to
numerous concerts in and around Boston and on Boston Public Radio. He earned a
doctorate in Collaborative Keyboard Arts at the University of Southern
California, where his principal instructors were Kevin Fitz-Gerald, Alan Smith,
and Malcolm Hamilton.
Dr. Funderburk has had numerous opportunities to perform abroad. He was chosen
to represent USC as a chamber soloist with the Berlin Chamber Orchestra. Since
then he has performed in China on three occasions, including appearances with
the Chord String Quartet from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and a chamber
recital at Bejing's Central Conservatory. Dr. Funderburk has performed with the
Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra in Yerevan, Armenia, and with the Panevezys
Chamber Orchestra in Lithuania. As a composer and arranger, Dr. Funderburk has
also produced recordings with baritone Simon Estes and soprano Jane Thorngren.
Dr. Funderburk serves as the Artist in Residence at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena, where he founded the church's 35-member Chamber Symphony. He is the artistic director of the Chapel Series at Lake Avenue, presenting several annual concerts involving orchestra, soloists, and choral works. |
